Business in the Streets in conjunction with BrandedTO put on their annual pitch competition for local entrepreneurs.
Out of many applicants, 5 finalists were chosen! (Clutch, Sugar Wax, Sankofa Stoles, ON WYT and Isareala Kobla). 5 golden minutes was all we had to pitch our companies to a total of 4 judges. All 5 female-led companies (black entrepreneurs at that) went up for their crack at a $5000 prize.
The experience alone was one for the books. Covid forced the annual competition to pivot into a virtual experience. We had technical difficulties but the BranedTO staff worked smart to figure out a way to keep the ball rolling.
A competition meant to only be one night lasted for 2 whole exciting weeks! A virtual judge deliberation via Zoom followed by a week of public voting for their favorite pitches ensued.
The race was tight and full of excitement. All 5 pitches grabbed hundreds of votes and brought on the attention of those who otherwise had no idea of the original small business ideas.
After the dust settled the judges' votes + the winner of the viewers' vote was tallied and the winner was crowned!
I am pleased to announce that we secured the first place prize and have been awarded $5000 to reinvest back into our company!
I would like to thank every single person who cast their vote and or shared with their networks! Over 2000 votes were collected and I am beyond grateful for the love and support of my community!
This won't be the last competition we enter and I hope to see you all there for the next one!
